Vision
Independent, educated and healthy women
Mission
To work towards alleviating poverty and oppression of girls and women by supporting research, education and microfinance initiatives.
Strategic Objectives:
1.Research
To sponsor, conduct and support the implementation of gender-equality and human rights research that alleviates the oppression of women, particularly women located in developing areas in the global south.
- Funding for research initiatives are expected to start in 2011
2.Education
To support girls and young women in gaining education and skills that will lead to their increased financial independence, health and well-being.
Funding for these initiatives will commence in the fall of 2009 and will include:
- Annual scholarship for a Portuguese-Canadian female entering college/university through the Federation of Portuguese-Canadian Business Professionals
- Sponsorship of tuition for girls in Afghanistan through The Afghan School Project and the Afghan-Canadian Community Centre
- Sponsorship of tutoring services for Portuguese-Canadian elementary school-ages girls in Toronto
3.Micro-Finance
To fund micro-finance initiatives that lead to increased financial independence, health and well-being of women.
- We fund micro-finance initiatives in Africa, specifically in Tanzania, Mali, Togo and Nigeria
